Art Clones
Faithful reproduction goes beyond the image: it restores the artwork’s physical character.
From a distance it is an image
Up close it is matter: colour, brushstrokes, depth, craquelure, irregularities and traces of time.
Artwork acquisition at GLAB or a partner centre
Dedicated colour and 3D texture scanning
File processing and surface reconstruction
Depth and colour tests
Printing on the selected support
Manual finishing and final inspection
Two shots, one continuous story · raw matter and colour
Capturing what a flat photograph cannot show
Detail becomes information to be returned to matter.
Ultra-high-resolution capture reveals weave, craquelure, brushstrokes and minute surface variations. After processing and print tests, the clone can be produced at the agreed size and on the selected support, with relief reaching approximately 7 millimetres when the project requires it.

A project that became a turning point
The Capture of Saint Peter
In 2020, GLAB captured Rutilio Manetti’s painting at ultra-high definition to produce a replica. Years later, that scan made it possible to observe minute surface details and became part of the journalistic and television analysis surrounding the painting. For GLAB, the significance of this story is technical: it demonstrates how much of the artwork had truly been captured.
